Happy Birthday Skeeter!

You are an amazing sister from whom we both feel so much love and support.

More content, less detail.

Get your commas in order:

Add one here

never use one there.

The name should be meaningful,

but not obvious.

Add background story and character growth.

What’s the point if there isn’t growth?

Can’t a thing just be beautiful?

Can’t I just be beautiful.

Do you need me to tell you a story about a flower that grows into my metaphor?

I’ve  grown!

Older

Wider

Taller

Wiser

My name has a story.

The one I was born with

shared with children I love more than root beer soda.

The one I gave to my husband and the one he gave to me.

It’s there and it isn’t obvious.

The me I was at six

didn’t need an arc.

Never used a comma.

She was just sitting in the mirror practicing being special for the day someone would notice.

Where would I be if she knew she was beautiful?

Not because her hair was dark and her eyes were blue.

Not because she covered the front of the community calendar.

Not because an old man

pulled over on the side of the highway

told her so

in a way that made her want to run into traffic

to escape his gaze.

Because she was kind and loved with her whole heart.

She didn’t need an arc.

She just needed to be loved back.

Where would I be if she knew she was THAT beautiful?

if she knew she was worthy?

Enough

Where would I be?
